Psychosomatics between Medicine and Psychotherapy
Learning to Speak with the Soul
The Language of Psychosomatic Disorders
Many people suffer from severe unexplained pain, chronic exhaustion, stomach, intestinal, or respiratory disorders, or other symptoms. After years of wandering through the healthcare system, they are often told, "No organic findings." Why does the body do this to us? Hanne Seemann, an expert in psychosomatics for over 30 years, offers a compelling and often overlooked explanation: Our soul communicates with us through such disorders. When a person and their life circumstances no longer align—when desires, longings, and life goals are persistently denied and unfulfilled—the body often speaks to us. This insightful book shows how those affected can find their own path or how professionals can support their patients in doing so.
Foreword
When patients with long-standing psychosomatic disorders contact me for a treatment appointment, they either have a referral or a recommendation for psychotherapy. Since I am a licensed psychological—rather than medical—psychotherapist, they think they might be in the right place—if we can work together, which we would know after one or two trial sessions.
Since I specialize in psychosomatics, I exclusively treat people with psychosomatic disorders. This book explores how to understand and address these conditions effectively.
